Live Ad Tonight

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Television viewers in the UK can tonight see a live advertisement during regular programming on Channel 4:

The programmes that surround them might habitually rely on cliffhangers to maintain attention, but advert breaks are not normally known for their sense of jeopardy. That could all change tonight when Channel 4 and Honda stage the first ever live advert on British television, featuring a team of skydivers leaping out of a plane over Madrid.

During the first ad break of the reality show Come Dine With Me at 8.10pm, the 19 skydivers will have three minutes and 20 seconds to spell out the word Honda, inspired by the car manufacturer’s new advertising strapline: “Difficult is worth doing”.

I can’t say it’s enough to make me watch Come Dine With Me, but I may try to time it right to switch over…

UPDATE: Well that was pretty cool, some funny moments and overall a pretty impressive feat. Apparently it’ll be available to watch online soon at honda.co.uk but at the time of writing, it’s not up yet.

You’re fired

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

I hate to feel that I’m behind the times, but I’d never watched The Apprentice prior to the current series. I’ve been watching the UK version, as that’s what is on TV here… surprisingly enough.

Needless to say, I’ve become hooked on it and the last couple of episodes have been especially good. It’s immense popularity has ensured it’s going to continue for at least another series and to that end, they are now recruiting for applicants who’d like to have a chance to hear those magical words “you’re fired”.

Feel like you’ve got what it takes? Check out the online application.

Spaced

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Having randomly decided to stick on an episode of Spaced, I was reminded how much I love this show… so I called up a site I’ve not visited in a few years, Spaced Out. I was then presented with the news that the definitive edition DVD boxset (both series of the show plus a ton of extras) is going to be released in the US & Canada this summer - hooray!

I have the UK version of this DVD and it’s stonking, the US one will have some new additions apparently:

Boasting over eight hours of content, Spaced: The Complete Series features bonus material including the all-new commentary from Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Matt Stone, Bill Hader (Superbad, Saturday Night Live), Patton Oswalt (King of Queens, Ratatouille) and Diablo Cody (Oscar-winning writer of Juno)

Hopefully this will bring Spaced back to people’s attention and maybe, just maybe, we might even see that third series that has been rumoured, suggested and longed for.

The Final Jeopardy Blog

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

It seems like every blog is mentioning the final jeopardy blog of late, but I thought I’d share the reason I’ve taken to visiting each day. For those of us outside of the US, it’s a little dose of the classic gameshow that we’d otherwise not get to see - and I like it.

30 Rock strikes the strike

Friday, December 7th, 2007

The writer’s strike in Hollywood has mostly just been a source of annoyance for me. I’m all for people getting what they deserve, but if it stops me seeing shows I love to watch then resentment’s gonna build. Selfish? Yep. Don’t care, where’s my new episode of The Office (US version, naturally)? Why am I sweating over the chances of concluding the respective seasons of Chuck, Pushing Daisies and Aliens in America? What do you mean I may not get Season 7 of 24?

One show I enjoy - 30 Rock - did manage to sneak in a reference before production stopped though, which I found pretty funny. Now let’s resolve some disputes and return me to my regular programming, please.
