Search Engine rankings

I’ve been using Google analytics since I started actually using this site and it led me to something interesting today. I share my name with a relatively popular American artist, who appears to paint a lot of nude women (you have been warned). Far be it from me to say that this is why he’s popular, but one way or another, a search for “Dave Stevens Art” would be expected to turn up a few links to his site, yes?

Perform this search in Google and sure enough, the first dozen pages relate to this topic.

Perform this search in Live Search and the top result is this very site, when I posted about 9 to 5 paintings and tagged it “art”.

I know they’ve been updating the way Live Search works recently, so I’m going to try and find out more.

Update: I should take localised searching in to account. Live Search knows I’m in the UK, so probably bumps UK-located sites up the listings. (Not verified yet though, just a thought)

In related news, I’m #6 on Google.com for the search Dave Stevens and #2 on Live Search for the same. UK Google bumps me to #2 for the same search. Given my complete lack of effort in SEO terms, I’m pretty sure I’ve got Wordpress to thank for that.
